I’m I responsible for my deceased husband personal loan debt?

Cathy T asked:

My brother in law states that my dead husband owes him money and he is suing me in small claims court. My husband has been dead for 4 years. I believe the loan took place in 2000 or 2001.

Is it possible to obtain a REAL reduction in ALL debt, or a REAL personal consolidation loan?

redheadedstepchild asked:

Is it really possible to reduce ALL debt? Or to obtain a REAL personal consolidation LOAN without having a large amount of home equity?

I am already in a Debt Management Program, that does not leave me enough money to even put gas in my car or food on the table. I am still searching for another full-time job in addition to the 8-10 hours a day I already work.

Default Hiding from Student Loan Debt – How do you turn someone in for that?

Kat asked:

I know someone who has successfully hidden from their student loan for years. They got married (so their last name changed), haven’t worked, and moved quite a bit. This person actually has the money to pay and lives the high life because of her husband’s income. It really isn’t fair to anyone – how would I go about notifying someone. I believe these were all federal loans. She is thinking about getting a job so maybe it will just catch up to her once she starts working.

How can a debt consolidation loan that also includes home repairs and will reduce monthly costs by $650 be bad

Ladybug asked:

I checked out the loan and the interest is not too bad giving that this is a second mortgage that gives money for repairs and pay offs. The only thing I see is that it eats up all the equity and we will need to live in our home for at least 15 years before trying to sell…so that alone is the biggest decision. I am just wondering if there is anything else I should be looking for???
Thank you for the advice. The rate is 9.5% Fixed for 15 or 20 years. There is no pre payment penalty.
