Does student loan debt affect immigration to Canada?
Posted on August 22nd, 2010 2 commentsHallie E asked:
My older brother is looking to immigrate to Canada, but has few grand in student loans- nothing serious, he makes small monthly payments, he’s not having to eat ramen or anything. However, I know that Canada requires a person to have a chunk of savings (apparently, enough to live off of for a year, I think they want you to have roughly $10,000) but I heard that if you have debt, you have to have enough savings to completely cover paying it off. Anyone know about this? Thanks!!

Will Revenue Canada take our refund to pay off my student loan debt?

Up until this year, I have filed my own income tax and so has my common-law husband. Since I owe money on my student loan I haven’t received what little bit I was entitled to get back, it goes to repayment. What I want to know is, since I now have no personal income and have to file under my husband, will they take his refund? With out income, can I still file my own seperately and just include the Universal Child Care supplement that I receive?

Will student loan debt come out of my taxes?

I am behind on my federal student loan payments. I am $150 behind. I’m making my payments each month and adding more to catch up when I can. If I’m still behind on it when it’s time for taxes will they take that out of my tax refund if I don’t catch up on it?

I have a lot of student loan debt from medical school. How soon should I pay it off?

I don’t have a well paying job yet, but anticipate having a good job in one year. Should I knock myself out to pay off the loans as soon as possible or make minimum payments every month? I’ve heard 2 different theories about this, one saying pay loans off as soon as possible, the other saying make minimum payments. Help?

What can I do about student loan debt if I decide to become a Buddhist monk?
Posted on July 9th, 2010 5 commentsMAN asked:
Buddhist monks don’t have income. The loans would take several years to pay off, and I’m not worried about karma, as incredibly rich bankers tend to be a little bit evil and not in need of all that money.
